Kestane balı tatlı, acımsı ve buruk tatları bir arada bulunduran farklı bir aroması vardır ve yenildiğinde kestane tadı yoğun bir şekilde hissedilir.

Kestane balının rengi koyu kahverengi olup, yoğun kıvamlıdır. Diğer ballara göre daha geç kristalleşir.Fruktoz oranı glikoz oranından daha yüksek olduğu için kristalleşme daha yavaştır. Kristalleşme sonucu oluşan granüller ince yapılıdır ve benmari yöntemiyle kolayca eski haline dönüşebilir.

Çiçek balına göre 2 kat daha fazla demir bileşeni içerir. İçerdiği B ve C vitaminleri ile vitamin değeri en yüksek ballardandır.

Kestane balının günlük tüketim miktarı sabah ve akşam olmak üzere birer tatlı kaşığıdır.
